Did you think Ferdinand Porsche designed your vw beetle? You are mistaken!

Our beetle is a 'car of mistery'. A lot of stories are told about it, but not all are true. According to attached article (German), the 7 most told false stories are:

1. It was only used on the road--> A Swiss company used it on train tracks. (red. I also know of one that was adjusted to float in water)


2. It is the most sold car world wide --> According to the article, it is surpassed by the vw Golf


3. It is no longer being build --> At the time of publication of this article, it was still being produced in Mexico


4. It is always pretty slow --> In 1973, enthousiast made it go 213 kph. It had 210 bhp.


5. Ferdinand Porsche designed it --> The first beetle-like sketches came from 18 year old Bela Barenyi in 1923


6. VW named it 'beetle'--> The term was first used in 1938 in the New York Times


7. The new beetle is its successor --> Other than its main shape, it has little in common with our classic beetles. It is longer, faster, more expensive, has more bhp, its motor is in the front, etc.
